As freelance instructional designers and eLearning content developers, we find ourselves in a unique position. Our work involves crafting effective learning experiences, but proving their direct impact on employee performance can be elusive.
The Dilemma: Our Role vs. Metrics Access
Our Role Defined: We meticulously map out learning objectives, design robust curricula, and create engaging content. Our focus is on crafting effective learning experiences that empower learners with knowledge and skills. We deliver our work to clients, but our engagement often ends there.
The Metrics Gap: Unlike full-time employees within an organization, we lack access to employee performance metrics. We cannot directly measure how our training impacts productivity, sales, or other key performance indicators (KPIs).
Why do interviewers ask us for impact examples? They may be seeking evidence of our problem-solving abilities. Interviewers want to see how we translate learning outcomes into real-world performance improvements. Demonstrating impact showcases our ability to create solutions that drive results.
Our Value Beyond Metrics: As freelancers, we may not have direct access to performance metrics, but our impact extends beyond numbers. We empower learners, ignite curiosity, and foster growth. So, when interviewers ask for examples, let’s showcase our creativity, dedication, and client-focused mindset. Our true value lies in the transformative learning experiences we create—one learner at a time.
Remember: Our impact is immeasurable, but it resonates through the learners we inspire.
